The Orthodox icon is a complex phenomenon. It is theology and a visual language because it consists of the hypostatic form of the depicted figure and the appropriate artistic technique with which this form is presented and exists. This complexity explains the simultaneous stability and transformability of the icon, which, as to its form, does not change but transforms over time in terms of its style.
