Unprepared Wood Panels – LONG (EN)
The unprepared panel is the starting point for the workshop that makes its own surfaces, from the first sizing to the final sanding of the gesso, to its own recipe and order.

Linden is the classic wood of iconography: light, with a fine, even grain, it takes gesso smoothly and carves easily, which is why it has held first place in the workshops for centuries. Seasoning matters as much as species: dry, mature wood stays flat and stable over time, and on larger panels the battens across the back hold the surface true through changes in humidity. Also, plywood is selected for its stability and durability.

Dimensions run from small devotional icons to large commissions, and the preparation is done with the materials of the neighbouring category: glues, chalk, and marble dust for the traditional gesso.

Art & Colour carries unprepared panels in many dimensions and wood types, beside the prepared panels and the preparation materials of the workshop.
