Egg Tempera with Under Painting
Giorgos D. Kordis Colour as light in Byzantine painting Theory and practice. The form structured with under painting, precisely because it is characterized by unity and because all its elements function aesthetically to the same degree, we could say that it is characterized by a wonderful and balanced presence of rhythm, which is understood as a state of dynamic balance, in such a way that space and time interpenetrate each other and constitute a new reality, the present… And this is because this form is not characterized by internal conflicts and juxtapositions that abolish the loving interpenetration and communion of heterogeneities. The under painted form provides possibilities of exit from the war of opposites and entry into the world of divine beauty, into the world of quietness and true peace, into life that exists beyond necessity and its consequences, into the pure and perfect Light of Innocence.
