Watercolours are one of the most expressive painting techniques, based on colour transparency and fluidity. Unlike opaque paints, watercolours allow the white of the paper to show through, creating luminous and airy results. The technique relies on gradual layering (from light to dark) and water control—more water gives transparency, less water gives intense colour.
