Drawing Supplies

Drawing supplies cover graphite and mechanical pencils, charcoal, coloured pencils, markers, fineliners and dip pens with ink, alongside erasers, sharpeners and the accessories that complete the kit.

A few things are enough to begin: a sketchbook, two or three graphite pencils in different grades, and an eraser. Everything else joins along the way, depending on where the drawing takes you.

Graphite pencils are the most familiar tool and the most versatile. Hard grades keep a fine, light line for detail work, soft grades fill the shadows. Mechanical pencils hold the same line width from the first page to the last and never need sharpening.

Charcoal spreads fast, wipes away easily and forgives every correction, which is why it is the preferred material for studies and large-scale work.

Markers and fineliners give a clean, steady line for outlines and illustration, and their pigment inks stand up to a watercolour wash and hold their colour over the years. A dip pen gives a line that responds to the pressure of the hand. Coloured pencils bring colour to drawing, built up gently in layers.

Alongside them, the small things that make the difference: erasers for clean corrections, sharpeners that keep a fresh point, blending stumps for spreading tone, fixative so the finished work stays in place.
