Welcome to the Art & Colour Blog
We are happy you are here!
In 1974, our founder Nikolaos Rudometof started something simple: an art supply business built on not just sourcing the best products, but also serving the arts community through deep knowledge and expertise of products and their applications. He researched materials, wrote guides, and self-published booklets for artists, long before the internet existed. Those booklets covered everything from pigment properties to proper brush care. Artists kept them in their studios and wholesale customers in their stores to help their customers.
That’s still who we are.
We started in Northern Greece in 1974. We grew alongside the artistic community; including iconographers utilizing Byzantine methods, contemporary painters and artists, educators, and creative professionals.
Three generations later, we’re still a family owned and operated business serving artists across Greece and internationally. We launched one of Greece’s early art supply websites in 2002. Now we’re relaunching this blog for a new era.
We test and manufacture products. We listen to artists. And now, with this redesigned website and relaunched blog, we’re sharing what we know more broadly than ever.

Why We’re Writing This
We’ve spent more than half a century answering questions about materials, such asWhich brushes are suitable for each medium? How does one prepare surfaces for egg tempera? Why do some paints cost five times more than others? Does a student really need professional-grade supplies?
Along the way, we’ve learned that our customers value this expert guidance and personal touch we’ve applied to in-store and online customers alike. With this blog, we want to make this knowledge accessible to the broader artistic community.
