Thus, plasticity relies on the dialectic between the neutral underdrawing and the luminous flesh. This fact has consequences for the aesthetic function of the icon, as it becomes trapped in the dialectic of light and shadow, and as a result, has limited potential for \u201cescape\u201d toward the
